One reason I like Thai food is the diversity of flavors. A good Thai meal will have something sweet, something sour, something spicy, something salty, something bland, and something bitter.
Last night our waitress asked us if we wanted to add ________ to one of the dishes we ordered to make it more bitter. One of my friends answered saying no we didn’t want _______ added. After the waitress left, we asked what it was we didn’t want added. The answer: poop.
Not wanting to believe this, we asked the waitress herself what it was she had offered to have added to our food. She used the same word she’d used before. We said, “does that mean ‘poop’.” She told us it is not exactly poop. It is poop that is still in the animal when it is slaughtered. And she assured us that the food is well cooked to ensure that it is safe to eat.
I’ll stick to bitter herbs.
