Art Field Trip

Sometimes even math teachers get to go on art field trips. Last Monday I was invited by my homeroom students’ art teacher to accompany them on a trip to one of the nearby temples to participate in the wax sculpture process.

Every year Ubon has a large festival corresponding with a Buddhist holiday, when large wax floats are paraded around the main park.

My students got to participate in the process of preparing one of these floats for the competition.

Swine Flu

The infamous flu has made its way not only to Ubon, but to the school where I teach. As a result the school is closing for a week. The student reaction is very mixed. Some are quite scared. Others couldn’t be more thrilled to get some extra days off school.

I have a sore throat. I think it is just from overuse of my voice.
