Random: all over the place within the weekend

The trouble is the more I have that is worth writing about, the less time I have to do the writing. Seth and I had a good time chillin’ here (and other places) alone this past weekend. We went up to Messiah Friday night and heard some great string music. It had been too long since I’d had the chance to listen to live music of that caliber. While Suzuki recitals are nice, they don’t cut it when you’ve been spoiled by performances by more proficient musicians.

Saturday we went to a Track meet at Shippensburg.  It was very good to see track friends, particularly Hager. It was strange to be there and not prepare to run. I miss being part of a team like that.

All weekend the phones were out. It didn’t matter too much, since we weren’t there often. A few times we had to walk over to the Longs or the Benshoffs to make a call or work out a schedule.

After church on Sunday, Seth and I ate lunch with the Benshoffs and Paisleys before going bowling with Shannon and Luke. Seth then played Ultimate, then went fishing. I stayed home and got my pond mainly in working order. One of my pumps managed to die over the winter. It was probably left plugged in too long.

Judah is home now, which is nice. The phones work, which also is nice. The sun was shining today, another plus. God is good (even when it isn’t all nice).

Electricity and Water

Just a reminder: If you are working on your pond and your pump isn’t working, no matter how many times you unplug and replug it while trying to fix it, remain cautious. Water and electricity work great together, but water, and electricity, and exposed skin, are not such a great combo.

The Mower

So two days ago I spent approximately forever trying to get our mower started. I decided to wait until we got some starter fluid. Yesterday it rained. Despite all my toughness I didn’t attempt to start the mower in the rain. Today I tried again. Our next door neighbor told me I wasn’t getting any spark. He came over and helped me get the spark plug out and he told me how to clean it. After messing around for about half a forever unit, I was about ready to give up hope, despite the few clouds of smoke that were now coming out about once every twenty pulls. Before calling it quits, I asked the omnipotent God to start ‘er up. The next pull brought the ol’ smokebreather to life. Some day I’ll stop being surprised at God doing stuff.

I decided I really like mowing on a grey day like today. The little rain earlier kept down the dust, but the grass was dry enough to cut. The sun wasn’t beating down on me (or on anything else).

Employer Notified

Well, not that this is a surprise, God is good. Today after work I talked with my employer about my decision to go to Thailand in January. He not only accepted this news (along with all the weeks I’m going to be away for cultural, language, and team interaction training), he gave me several words of encouragement, affirming me as an employee and as an individual.
